Sendaway/Redirect  10 marks  The dog is sent away from the handler to a point/area designated by the judge. Control must be shown when the dog has made the outrun or has made as good as an attempt as it can. In the PD and TD stakes once the dog has made the outrun they will be required to redirect to another point / area. The distances which the dogs are sent vary greatly with the stake and also with the judge, a CD/UD  sendaway would typically be between 70 - 100 yards to maybe a pole a marker  or a tree/bush whereas a TD one may be as much as 300 yards down the centre of a field with two redirects one 150 yards diagonally across to light patch of grass then further on down the field to a thistle.

Heel Free   5 marks      The dog is judged off lead and is required to do slow, normal and fast pace, left ,right and about turns. The heelwork in working trials is judged fairly leniently and more emphasis is put on the dog working in a happy relaxed manner than the ability to bend its neck around the handlers left thigh.

Down stay  10 marks   The dogs are usually left in a line and the handler goes out of sight for 10 minutes, minor movement may be penalised but if the dog moves more than its body length, changes position or lifts up enabling daylight to be seen underneath it then it will lose all its marks for this section

Retrieve/Speak  5 marks  The dog is made to wait while the dumbbell is thrown and is asked to retrieve it on the judges signal. The dog must present the dumbbell to the handler and leave it and finish to heel when told. In the PD and TD stakes the retrieve is replaced with the Speak On Command. This means that when told the dog should bark freely (usually about 10 barks) until told to stop by the handler. Often the dog is then asked to speak and be quiet a second time. The dog can be placed in a variety of situations to do this exercise limited only by the judges imagination.

Steadiness To Gunshot  5marks  This exercise usually takes place on the tracking field after the nosework. It is normal for only one shot to be fired and the dog is generally placed in a position of the handlers choice about 10 paces away although in the higher stakes it is not uncommon for this exercise the be tested at heel.
